Mass of Defending Uighurs Shouts '2019 Change President'

KolomFakta. Thousands of people who rallied in front of the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta shouted "2019 replace the president" when holding a peaceful protest defending the ethnic Uighur minority on Friday.
Initially, one of the figures who participated in the demonstration, Lieus Sungkharisma from the Chinese Anti-Corruption Community, urged the government to strongly address the Chinese government regarding this matter in his speech.

Lieus, who is an Indonesian of Chinese descent, considers President Joko Widodo's government to be weak against President Xi Jinping regarding the Uighur issue due to Jakarta's dependence on Beijing in economic matters.

"The ones who should protest like this are the president, not us. The Indonesian people are not afraid of being boycotted by the economy or anything," Lieus said.
"The one in the Palace must move quickly, don't wait for the people to take to the streets first. If this is the case in 2019?"
"Change president!" the crowd shouted Lieus.

The slogan also continued to be heard several times when a number of other orators criticized the government and asked the masses what would happen in 2019 if the government remained silent about the Uighurs.
This peaceful action was originally held to show the solidarity of the Indonesian people, especially Muslims towards the Uighurs who were suspected of experiencing persecution in Xinjiang, China.

The demonstration that took place after Friday prayers was attended by thousands of individuals from various humanitarian organizations and the Muslim community.
Even so, political issues did not escape the agenda of the demonstration. Some of the demo participants were seen as groups that had participated in a peaceful demonstration 212.

This was evident from the many masses who sang the chants of the Islamic Defense Act 212. Some 212 Alumni figures such as FPI General Chairperson Sobri Lubis, activist Neno Warisman, Secretary General of the Indonesian Intellectual and Young Ulama Assembly (MIUMI) Bachtiar Nasir, Chairperson of the DPP Alumni Brotherhood 212 Slamet Ma'arif, and Chairperson of the GNPF-Ulama Yusuf Muhamamd Martak, helped enliven the action today.
